The Illiterate Boyfriend Test Is Funny Until You Realize You Do Not Respect Your Partner
The viral boyfriend word test looks harmless at first: ask him to pronounce a difficult word, film the reaction, laugh, post, repeat.
But underneath the joke is a much sharper question: are you laughing with your partner, or are you collecting proof that you do not respect them?
Because compatibility is not just chemistry. It is how you feel about someone when the joke ends.

The real issue is not pronunciation
Mispronouncing a word does not automatically mean someone is unintelligent, undateable, or incompatible with you.
The bigger issue is the feeling that shows up while you watch them struggle.
- Do you feel affection?
- Do you feel secondhand embarrassment?
- Do you feel superiority?
- Do you feel contempt?
- Do you feel disconnected from how they think?
The answer matters more than the word.
Intellectual compatibility is not about having the same education
Two people can have different degrees, vocabularies, reading habits, or career paths and still have a strong relationship.
Intellectual compatibility is more about whether you can respect each other’s minds.
- Can you talk without one person feeling talked down to?
- Can you disagree without contempt?
- Can you learn from each other?
- Can you enjoy conversation together?
- Can you respect different strengths?
Red flags hiding underneath the joke
The problem is not one silly video. The problem is when the video exposes a pattern you have been avoiding.
- You feel embarrassed introducing them to people.
- You secretly think you are better than them.
- They mock your interests, goals, or intelligence.
- You cannot have serious conversations without shutting down.
- One person constantly performs superiority.
- You use humor to hide resentment.
Green flags in real compatibility
- You feel safe being curious, wrong, or unfinished.
- They are willing to learn without becoming defensive.
- You can explain things without feeling like a parent.
- They respect your interests even when they do not share them.
- You respect their strengths even when they are different from yours.
A strong relationship does not require matching brains. It requires mutual respect.

Questions to ask before you judge the relationship
- Do I respect how this person thinks?
- Do they respect how I think?
- Do we make each other feel smarter, safer, or smaller?
- Am I embarrassed by them, or afraid of other people’s opinions?
- Is this a real incompatibility, or am I chasing a social-media standard?
